An Aberdeen bride-to-be was overjoyed last night after her precious wedding band was recovered after being stolen.
And Lindsey Cooper had her fiance, 34-year-old Matthew Duthie, to thank after he turned detective when the custom-made ring was stolen during a break-in at their home in Walker Road, Torry.
The gold band was stolen, along with £1,000 in cash and various electrical items on Sunday between 1.20pm and 3.20pm.
Mr Duthie, an IT support worker, who was determined to find his fiance’s precious ring, said: “We had taken pictures of the ring and I decided to visit as many pawn shops, and similar outlets, as I could and give them a copy of the picture and ask them to look out for it.
“One of the outlets I called at actually had the ring, and recognised it right away, but they did not want to hand it over as I could have been anyone, so they passed it to the police.”
With their marriage ceremony due in September, Miss Cooper was devastated when she realised the ring had been stolen.
The 36-year-old cost planning engineer said: “It has been 17specially made to fit round my engagement ring, and we had only picked it up at the weekend.
“We had been looking at it, and left it out, normally it would have been locked away, but that place was broken into as well, so it would have made no difference.
“It was great news to get a call that the ring had been recovered, and even better to get it back at 5.30pm. Hopefully this will help the police trace our other items.”
Police are now hunting for a man and woman, both with dark hair, who were seen in the area at the time. The woman was wearing her hair tied back in a pony tail, and had on a hooded jacket with fur trim hood.
Anyone with information should contact the police.
