A north-east community project which helps thousands of families every year is appealing for donations to help those in need on Christmas Day.
Last the Buchan Giving Tree helped deliver 2,180 gifts to north-east families, and volunteers attached to the community project expect this year to be busier.
Each year, the Christmas appeal ensures no child goes without a present on Christmas Day and this year the group’s founder, Shona Watson, has stressed the need for gift donations and for people to do all they can to help.
Miss Watson said: “We need all the help we can get right now. This year’s appeal will be needed more due to the Covid-19 situation.”
As well as the annual Christmas appeal, the community project also has several events planned to “spread some cheer”.
On November 21, the Festival of Trees event will allow children to see Santa’s helpers make toys and view and judge some specially decorated trees.
Miss Watson said: “We’re planning an event where children will get to meet Santa and collect a present.
“Santa and his friends will be there, and kids can drop off their letters. They can also pick up a goodie bag and check the naughty and nice list.”
To enter the competition contact the Buchan Giving Tree Facebook page for an entry form.
On December 19 at Drummer’s Corner, children can visit Santa in his grotto and have their photo taken. This is a ticketed only event at £5 per ticket.
