A north-east volunteer has been recognised for his commitment to educating people about water safety.
Graham Dutton, an aquatics coordinator with Sport Aberdeen, has been actively involved in lifesaving for over 17 years and has now received an award from the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK).
Mr Dutton was presented with the Stanley Peck trophy, which is awarded to those who have done their utmost to educate and reduce drownings in their local area.
He led a scheme to get 16 children their Survive and Save bronze award, and has helped run a number of other courses with Sport Aberdeen.
Over the last two years, Mr Dutton has also led Aberdeen Water Safety Group which was set up after a tragic drowning at Aberdeen beach, delivering prevention talks to schools and getting new signs put up along the beach front.
He said: “There are so many deserving people across the country who give up their own time to help educate and ultimately prevent water incidents and I am truly honored to have received this award.
“For me the most important thing is to ensure that that the message of drowning prevention is spread, and the basic but invaluable skills are effectively passed onto each generation.
“Through working with local leisure trusts such as Sport Aberdeen, we are able to reach more people from different walks of life and ensure that everyone has access to water safety education, something that can save lives and will allow people to enjoy the sport of swimming with more confidence.”
