Calls have been made to show the health impact of controversial Spaces for People measures in Stonehaven compared to communities without such restrictions in place.
At yesterday’s Kincardine and Mearns Area Committee, councillors discussed a petition with more than 800 signatures calling for the removal of the scheme in Stonehaven.
During the meeting, Mearns councillor George Carr said businesses were concerned about the project’s impact on their income.
He said: “We need to demonstrate how effective the bollards have been in Stonehaven, compared to Inverbervie and Ballater where we’ve got no measures in place, and see if there’s been huge spikes in these areas without the social distancing measures, compared to Stonehaven.”
Stonehaven councillor Sarah Dickinson said there are businesses who back the measures, but they find it harder to have their voices heard due to the “strength of voices against the measures”.
