An Aberdeen secondary school pupil has won an award for her ideas in improving the local environment.
Sandra Sunny, from Hazlehead Academy, was runner-up in a Scotland-wide environment competition, in the age 15-18 category.
She submitted an article, which was selected from hundreds of entries, called Haste to Reduce Waste.
It highlights the issue of litter in her neighbourhood, as well as the number of plastic bags being discarded.
Candidates had been asked: “What needs to change in your local community that will make a difference to your environment and what role can you play in making it happen?”
The teenager, who also won a Press and Journal competition in our Energy Voice supplement, also wrote to local shops, businesses, and Aberdeen City Council.
Her effort earned her second place in the competition, which was run by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency.
