Musicians from across Europe will descend on a north-east village next weekend for a popular annual festival.

The Scottish Traditional Boat Festival kicks off at Portsoy next Friday, and visitors of musical persuasions can look forward to a packed programme of entertainment.

This year the festival is a key event in the Year of Homecoming – a programme of events and activities focusing on celebrating the very best of Scotland.

Festival favourites and newcomers alike will be appearing throughout the three day celebration of traditional boat building and sailing, music, art and culture.

The ever-popular De Kinkels will return from the Netherlands for the event, and will also perform at the Station Hotel on Saturday night.

Celtic Connection award winners RURA will headline the Showcase Concert, while more traditional Scottish acts Portsoy Pipe Band and Tarves’ group Chaotica are also lined up to perform.

The Spiers Family, Danny Couper, Carol Anderson and Arthur Watson will be curating informal sessions in the festival marquee, as well as running workshops on Scots songs and tunes that have been adopted around the world.

Caroline Packman, Homecoming Scotland 2014 Director said: “The Scottish Traditional Boat Festival is a key event in the year of Homecoming, which will showcase the maritime and cultural heritage of the north-east.

“Scotland is the perfect stage for events, and with the announcement of the packed musical programme there is even more for visitors to enjoy at the festival this year.”

Tickets for the festival can still be purchased in advance from www.stbfportsoy.com.
