Young people offered parts in dance performance

Young people in the north-east are being invited to take part in a world dance premiere.

Internationally acclaimed choreographers Royston Maldoom and Tamara McLorg are creating a new piece inspired by Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons.

The performance will make its debut at His Majesty’s Theatre as part of the Aberdeen International Youth Festival (AIYF).

Organisers are asking young people to take part in a series of workshops and rehearsals beginning this week, which will lead to them appearing in the final show.

The rehearsals are free to take part in and open to both experienced dancers and beginners aged 12 and older.

Sessions will take place in Elgin Sports and Community Centre, Lawrence Dance Academy in Peterhead, Banchory’s Deeside Dance Centre and Aberdeen CityMoves.

A specially-commissioned 25-minute documentary film will be created recording the run-up to and performance of the piece.

AIYF artistic director Stewart Aitken said: “We are very pleased at AIYF to be able to help deliver the Four Seasons project.

“Over the past few years we have been developing more initiatives that enable more local young people to get involved in the festival from across a wide range of backgrounds and arts experience, and a project like this provides a fantastic opportunity to support this work.”

Apply by Friday at www.aiyf.org/fourseasons.

The final performances will be held on July 20 at 5pm and 7.30pm.
