Organisers of a popular north-east raft race are imposing strict new rules on entrants to this year’s event .
No rudders will be allowed on craft competing in the Peterhead Scottish Week challenge after last year’s winners – a team from Fresh Catch – stormed to victory with a little help from their steering aid.
The race is one of the biggest draws of the annual gala week, which will also feature live music and an aerobatic display this year.
Scott Ross, spokesman for the organising committee, said: “We are now taking teams for this year’s raft race.
“The biggest change this year is that rudders are banned, which ought to liven things up.
“We look forward to seeing everyone down at the Lido on Thursday, July 24, for what will be a packed evening of events.
“We have had a good response so far with formers winners coming back as well as first timers and regular entrants.”
The 53rd annual Peterhead Scottish Week opens on July 19 and runs until July 27.
It will feature a range of activities, including a family bike ride, and some special performances.
And, following the success of the aerobatic display at last year’s event, the skies above Peterhead will be taken over by the Blades display team on the evening of Friday, July 25.
This civilian team is mainly made up of ex-Red Arrows pilots who fly small Extra aircraft – similar to those used in the Red Bull air races.
Entry forms are available by contacting the organisers via the Peterhead Scottish Week Facebook page.
