Aberdeen City Council has added two vans to its growing environmentally-friendly fleet of vehicles.
The authority is already leading the way in using hydrogen-powered vehicles by taking part in the £20million Aberdeen Hydrogen Bus Project, and ordering a fleet of ten “green” buses.
Now the council has unveiled two custom-made hydrogen vans, the first to be deployed in Scotland
The Euro5 Ford Transits have already been displayed to two transport study groups.
Council leader Jenny Laing said: “We are internationally renowned as a centre of expertise in oil and gas and we are determined to also lead the way on hydrogen.
“We have already made great strides on this by working closely with our European partners to develop and test hydrogen technologies, and we continue to do so with a view to securing a renewable source of clean energy which can be used for a variety of purposes, including transport.”
The vehicles have been converted using a dual-fuel internal combustion engine, which will help reduce harmful emissions.
They are also capable of recording fuel consumption, location and other data to help analyse vehicle performance.
