Officers from 4 Scots are eager to boost the numbers of north-east residents in their battalion.
Yesterday they launched a recruitment drive in the area to encourage more people to join up.
Captain Frazer Stark said that there were opportunities available in the regiment.
He said: “We really want to use this occasion to reinforce the recruitment message. It has been difficult to do that while in Afghanistan, but we are keen to get it out now.
“What we are trying to do is get young men to join their local regiment and our aspiration is to send local boys back to their local battalion whenever possible.”
The regiment has strong historic links with the north-east, which Capt. Stark said the regiment wanted to build on.
He added: “It is excellent to be back in Scotland. We have a very strong connection to Aberdeen, and want to recruit more people from the area.
