A Peterhead dentist is to face a standards hearing over the way he treated a patient over a 13-year- period.
John Donaldson, of Balmoor House, Peterhead, will go before the General Dental Council (GDC) in Edinburgh on Monday.
It is claimed that Mr Donaldson’s treatment of his patient “fell far below the standard expected of a reasonably competent general dental practitioner” in appointments between December 1998 and August 2011.
The practice committee of the GDC will hear allegations that Mr Donaldson failed to undertake adequate assessments of the patient’s condition.
Papers to go before the committee detail claims that Mr Donaldson failed to discuss the risk of caries, or tooth decay, failed to provide dietary advice and did not share treatment options with the patient.
Record keeping of the patient’s condition also fell “far below” that expected on 27 separate occasions, it is claimed.
Records of local anaesthetic used on these occasions has also been raised as a concern, as has the way Mr Donaldson detailed his preparations for a bridge for the patient.
The committee will determine whether Mr Donaldson’s fitness to practice as a dentist has been impaired by his treatment of the patient.
