Travellers have pitched up in a north-east town, prompting concerns from local businesses.
Five caravans arrived in Ellon on Tuesday, and set up camp in the town’s Castle Way.
Now nearby businesses have alerted their local councillors amid fears the group will leave behind a huge mess. It comes after another group pitched up at nearby Balmacassie last October, and left behind empty caravans, piles of rubbish and even a cage of ferrets.
Louise Mitchell, practitioner at Stepping Stones Nursery, said: “When the travellers were here before they were a lot closer to us and left dog mess everywhere.
“Their kids were coming in the garden of the nursery and messing around here.”
An Aberdeenshire Council spokeswoman said the authority was launching an action to evict the group.
She said: “We have been made aware of a traveller encampment of five caravans, and an environmental health officer visited the site.
“Discussions are under way to begin legal proceedings to have the encampment removed from the site.”
