A motorist had a lucky escape yesterday morning after his car left a busy north-east road and collided with a house.
The accident happened at Turriff’s Station Road just before 7am.
The driver of the blue Audi TT is believed to have fallen ill behind the wheel moments before he went off the road and smashed through a garden fence.
The car hit the wall of a house, causing a small amount of damage. The motorist was taken by ambulance to a GP in Banff. Police said he had suffered a cut lip.
There were five people in the house at the time of the crash, including two children under six years old.
A family friend said the occupants were alerted by a loud bang at around 6.45am.
“It was lucky this happened first thing in the morning and not later on, when there might have been children playing in the garden,” she said.
A fire service spokesman confirmed a crew attended at the scene, but said they did not have to cut the motorist out of his vehicle.
