One of the wild dolphins on Aberdeen’s summer art trail is getting a taste of golfing life – and meeting some of the stars of the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open.
Designed by artist Gordon Henry, Golfin Dolphin has been moved from his base at the Royal Aberdeen Golf Club and is enjoying life in the players’ private area.
This is to allow the golfers, including last year’s Open champion Phil Mickleson, European Tour champion Paul Lawrie and Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley, to add their autographs to his colourful design.
The signed dolphin will be auctioned off, along with 49 others, in September. All proceeds will be given to the official charity of the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital – the Archie Foundation – and the Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC).
Cassie Thompson, fundraising director at the Archie Foundation, said the response to the dolphins project had been “absolutely amazing”.
“We are delighted to be the nominated charity of the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open and as a sponsor of Golfin Dolphin they are generously helping us to secure the autographs of the golfers while they are in Aberdeen,” she said.
“All the proceeds from the auction in September will support Archie’s work in making the difference for more than 130,000 sick children every year and WDC’s conservation work protecting dolphins which live in the seas off the Aberdeenshire coast.”
Golfin Dolphin will be back on public display at the start of next week.
