Modern technology proved a boon for theology graduate Mary Duncanson, who had never set foot in the campus before collecting her degree.
The 67-year-old minister from Granton-on Spey completed all of her studies through distance learning.
It is her first degree after she returned to education, having worked as an occupational therapist.
Rev Duncanson, who was accompanied on the day by daughters Kirsty, 41, and Lindsay, 39, grandson Lukas and friend Helen Cook from Kingussie, admitted studying long distance had proven a challenge.
She said: “I did my course on the phone and on the internet. It was quite difficult at times, but it’s given me a huge sense of achievement.
“This is my first time on campus – it’s quite interesting being here as I think sometimes people forget that there are mature students who already have grown up families.”
Rev Duncanson is a minister in the Parish of Abernethy in Badenoch and Strathspey.
Speaking of her decision to go to university, she said: “I’ve been a reader with the Church of Scotland for about nine years and I had the opportunity of transferring to become ordained, so that was what prompted me to study.”
