Elderly woman ‘cracks head’ on rocks at Stonehaven Harbour

An elderly woman has suffered head injuries after falling into an Aberdeenshire harbour.
The incident happened at Stonehaven’s Old Pier, at the town’s harbour, at around 9.20pm this evening.
Aberdeen and Stonehaven coastguard teams were both called to the incident.
An Aberdeen Coastguard spokesman said: “She fell over at the rocks at the old pier at Stonehaven and cracked her head on the rocks.
“We got the coastguard to get her off the rocks and into an ambulance.
They were notified of incident by a member of the public.
He added: “There was a few people down there when it happened.”
Tonight is the second night of the Stonehaven Folk Festival, which attracts high numbers of music fans to the town every year.
The spokesman added: “It was low water where she fell. A team from Stonehaven and a a team from Aberdeen were sent to extract her from the rocks into the ambulance.
“She hurt her head on the rocks quite bad.”
An ambulance spokeswoman said : “We took one patient into ARI. We got the call at 9.15pm.”
She could not comment on the woman’s condition at the time.
A police spokesman confirmed they were notified of the incident, but were not required.
