One of Scotland’s most in-demand lifeboat teams took time out of their busy schedule yesterday to attend gala celebrations at a tiny north-east harbour.
The Fraserbrugh RNLI crew, who were shouted out twice last week, took part in a mock rescue demonstration at Cairnbulg.
It was part of a packed line-up for the village’s annual harbour open day.
Scores of families descended on the historic port for an afternoon of fun, games and food.
All money raised from the event goes into local harbour projects.
On Wednesday afternoon, Fraserburgh lifeboat was involved in a successful rescue operation near the town’s beach after two children got into trouble while swimming.
The crew was called out again on Friday when a tourist reported a capsized boat near Cairnbulg. It turned out to be the wreck of the Banff trawler Sovereign, which has been stranded on rocks at the shoreline for more than nine years.
Meanwhile, another north-east community raised a record-breaking amount at their summer gala.
The celebrations at Whitehills playing fields, near Banff, featured five-a-side football, a fancy dress parade and vintage tractor procession. There was also displays by the local lifeboat team and karate groups.
Organisers said Saturday’s event had made more than £6,800 on the day, with donations still to come in.
Peterhead will host its harbour open day on Sunday, August 9 from 10.30am-4pm. The event features a variety of indoor and outdoor entertainment including a bike roadshow, football, steam engines and more than 60 stalls.
The Buchan port’s yearly Scottish Week gala kicks off on Saturday.
