A Conservative councillor in Aberdeen has called for more to be done to help the armed forces community in the city.
Ross Thomson said assistance could be offered across all of the services provided by the local authority, including housing.
The ward member for Hazlehead, Ashley and Queen’s Cross has a motion going to a full council meeting next month.
The Tory politician wants the authority to “restate” its commitment to the armed forces and recognise the “enormous contribution and sacrifices” made.
He is asking for officials to come back with a report on what can be done for veterans and also to work with neighbouring councils on policies for the allocation of housing.
Mr Thomson said: “I want to look at what we can be doing to help both veterans and those currently serving and the families of those who are serving.
“I think there is an opportunity for us to do more, and to look at what other authorities have done to support the armed forces community in their area.
“There may be more that we can do in terms of housing provision.
“We have just celebrated armed forces day, so I think now would be a good time.”
The motion is due to be discussed at the full council meeting on August 20.
