An axed community council could be revived thanks to fresh interest from locals.
The watchdog group for Alvah and Forglen, near Banff, was shut down by Aberdeenshire Council last month after years of inactivity.
Local authority chiefs took action after it emerged the group had not held a meeting since July 2011.
It was formally dissolved after several failed attempts to contact the chairman and discuss ways of keeping the group alive.
But now the group could be resurrected after a public meeting to gauge interest in a relaunch attracted more than 20 people.
Residents said there was a need for a community council, which would allow them to work together for the good of the area.
The council’s Banff and Buchan area manager, Margaret-Jane Cardno, said: “I am delighted that the residents of the Alvah and Forglen area have turned out in such strong numbers.
“It is very encouraging to see the need for participation in community empowerment at grass roots level being recognised.”
The local authority is now inviting nominations for the new community council. Forms are available from the council’s Banff office or by e-mailing linda.stuart@aberdeenshire.gov.uk.
According to the minutes of the group’s last annual meeting in February 2011, it holds a budget of just over £1,500.
In 2005, the community council’s founding members were honoured for 25 years of service.
During the late 1990s, the group campaigned for improved parking in the area.
It was the second community council in the Banff and Buchan area to be wound-up by the council in recent years.
In 2012, area committee members agreed to shut down the Sandhaven and Pitullie group.
The move followed a war of words over an outstanding debt of £200 allegedly owed to the village’s boat owners group.
