A north-east cancer support charity is on the lookout for more than 300 marshals and volunteers for a charity walk.
CLAN Cancer Support needs helpers for its popular walking event, which is being held next month.
Participants will be able to take part in either a 13 or 7.8 mile route, which will take in a number of landmarks from King’s College and St Machar’s Cathedral to Pittodrie.
Volunteers are needed to help with a variety of activities during the walk on September 21. These include covering junction points and manning water points to handing out goody bags and medals to walkers at the finish line.
Susan Crighton, CLAN’s fundraising manager, said: “Last year, we were incredibly grateful after we saw hundreds of people come forward to help with the volunteering and marshalling of the event and we are looking for a similar number again this year to really enable the walk to take place.
“Without the generous help of volunteers from across the north of Scotland, CLAN would not be where it is today and we would be delighted if you could help play a part in what is set to be the biggest and best Landmark Walk yet.”
She added: “Last year we had a number of companies who viewed volunteering as almost a team bonding exercise and it was really great that they could mix helping others with helping themselves. We would certainly encourage local businesses to take a similar approach this year.”
The inaugural event attracted nearly 600 walkers and marshals last year, who helped raise more than £40,000 for the charity.
Michael Spence, of Bond Dickinson, which is supporting the event, said: “At last year’s event it was very obvious how much all the volunteers gained from the experience personally over and above the immeasurable difference their presence made to CLAN. I would strongly encourage participation in this way to a great fun event for a marvellous cause.”
