Scottish Week activities at Peterhead took to the water yesterday as budding sailors were given a taste of life on the ocean waves.
Youngsters were shown the ropes by members of the town’s sailing club during day three of the north-east’s biggest summer gala.
Yesterday’s taster sessions at the Lido were blessed with blue skies and sunshine. They continue today from 10am to noon and 2pm to 4pm.
Meanwhile, an exhibition charting the history of the town’s lifeboat crew has also proved a big draw. The museum, at the port authority’s auction house, was set up last year and is open every day during Scottish Week.
Yesterday’s line-up also included a Great Buchan Bake Off contest in the Rescue Hall and a 3k walk and fun run at the marina.
The fun and games continues today with a quiz night, demonstration of net mending skills and a camera club exhibition, amongst others. A cat show and Peterhead’s Got Talent competition will take place tomorrow.
The traditional raft race and bay swim will be held on Thursday evening, before the annual fireworks display at 10.30pm.
One of the biggest attractions this year will be a return performance by aerobatic display team the Blades, which features former members of the Red Arrows crew. They are due to fly over the town from 7.30pm on Friday.
