A former north-east MSP has been selected as the Liberal Democrat candidate for Aberdeenshire West for the 2016 Scottish Parliament elections.
Mike Rumbles was elected to the first Scottish Parliament in 1999 and held the West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine seat for 12 years before it was abolished.
He was defeated in the 2011 election in the redrawn Aberdeenshire West constituency, which was won by the SNP’s Dennis Robertson.
Mr Rumbles received more than 80% of the vote of local Lib Dem members in Deeside and Donside during the selection process.
Mr Rumbles said: “I have been delighted by the very many local people who have asked me to stand again for the Scottish Parliament here in Aberdeenshire.”
