A 57-year-old van driver has died after taking unwell at the wheel and crashing.
Emergency services were called to a one-vehicle crash on the A980 Banchory to Torphins road at the Raemoir junction at about 12.20pm.
However, the male driver of the Mitsibushi van could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A police spokesman said: “A 57-year-old man has died after the vehicle he was driving left the A980 at Raemoir.
“Emergency services were made aware of the incident around 12.20pm on Thursday March 4, 2021.
“The man was the driver of a Mitsubishi Canter truck, which was the only vehicle involved.
“He was pronounced dead at the scene and his next of kin have been made aware.
“A full report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course.”
The road was closed in the aftermath of the crash with local diversions put in place.
Local councillor Rosemary Bruce said: “In the circumstances, my heart goes out to the family and friends of the driver involved.
“It is a very, very sad incident.
“The emergency services deserve praise for all the work that they do in attending this kind of incident and praise should also be given to local people who avoided the area and took caution whilst the incident was dealt with.”
The road fully reopened shortly before 4.30pm.
