A third Wild Dolphin sculpture erected as part of a charity fundraising trail in Aberdeen has been damaged by vandals.
Montgomery, who was on display at Seaton Park, has been removed after being targeted earlier this week.
The life-sized fibreglass sculpture was damaged after vandals set a fire at his base – just days after two previously vandalised dolphins were repaired and returned to their spots in Western and Victoria parks.
Montgomery’s fibreglass, which was slightly burnt, is now being repaired before he is sent back to artist Shelagh Swanson to touch up her design.
The Wild Dolphin trail has proved hugely popular, with families touring the Granite City to find the sculptures and snap a picture. They will be on display until August 29, before being auctioned off to raise money for the Archie Foundation and the Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC).
Stine Bang, events fundraising manager at WDC, said: “Montgomery, the Wild Dolphin at Seaton Park, had some damage at the base and he has been removed for repairs. We are also aware of some minor burn marks on the base and the plaque.”
As well as the three vandalised dolphins, another two sculptures at Aberdeen Harbour and garden centre Dobbies have been accidentally damaged by people standing and leaning on them.
Lord Provost George Adam said: “I love the Wild Dolphins. I think they are amazing, and I think they have transformed the city and city centre over this summer.
“A huge amount of people have been to see them and are doing the trail, so it’s hugely disappointing that they have been vandalised. I think the people who have done this should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves for attacking these artworks.”
Police are looking into the vandalism reports, and urge anyone with information to contact them on 101.
