Aberdeen police officers have issued a statement hailing Aberdeen FC’s trip to Groningen as “a very positive experience”.
Senior and football specific officers made the journey to the Dutch city for the team’s Europa League clash with FC Groningen.
Aberdeen won the match 2-1, however, there were eight arrests for disorder and a few minor offences.
Around 200 FC Groningen fans were said to have charged at Dons supporters on a city street before the game.
Chief Superintendents Adrian Watson, said: “Overall it was a very positive experience in Groningen.
“As expected the overwhelming majority of the travelling support behaved in an exemplary fashion. One or two perhaps let themselves down.
“We are aware that some of the home support would have caused a few challenges and this will be thoroughly investigated by the Dutch Police.
“There were a total of eight arrests for disorder and lower level offences. Police Scotland will continue to work positively with our counterparts in the Netherlands.
“I would also say that we are delighted to see the club progress in Europe and we will look to again support AFC in San Sebastián, Spain, next week.
“I would expect those who make the journey there will continue to do the city proud.”
