Today Aberdeen FC fans spoke about their experiences in Groningen after the Dons’ Europa League clash.
Gary Findlay, 42, from Rosehearty made the trip to the Dutch city with friend, Aberdeen environmental worker, Doug McKay.
Mr Findlay said Groningen had been “peaceful” when he was there.
He added: “We were actually in the hotel when we heard that news. We didn’t see anything kicking off, it was peaceful.
“There were two big squares where the Aberdeen fans were gathered in, and we didn’t actually see any of it.
“What we’ve heard is that there was provocations from the Dutch fans.
“We can’t complain, when we was sitting there it was all peaceful and everyone was minding their own business having a good time. It was a good experience.”
Paul walker, of Aberdeen FC’s Bridge of Don supporters club said he was not surprised that trouble had been started by the Dutch hooligans.
Mr Walker, 29, who did not attend the games, said: “From what I’ve heard I don’t think Aberdeen fans had any involvement, it came from the Dutch.
“I think it’s pretty common over in Holland for that to happen.
“I think it was kind of expected because they have got that reputation in Holland.”
