Big cats purred into the grounds of Drum Castle yesterday – to the delight of motoring enthusiasts from across the north-east.
The Grampian region members of the Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club held their 15th annual gathering and car show, raising £8,250 for a north-east charity in the process.
Judges and visitors alike wandered up and down the castle lawn admiring the lines of Jaguars and Daimlers, which included models from the 1950s and 1960s such as E-Types, XK120s and an SS100, to more modern additions from the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s to the present day.
Each year organisers invite a guest car club to join in the showcase, and this time the stage was shared with the Porsche Club, with 10 local owners showing off their sporty models.
Proceeds from this year’s showcase will be donated to the Aberdeenshire Learning Education Centres (Alec), a charity which promotes healthy lifestyles among schoolchildren.
Jim Mann, a member of the club and chief judge at yesterday’s event, said: “It went very well. We had one heavy shower that dampened things down a bit for a while.
“We had about 65 cars on display, so there were probably about 1,000 people who came along.”
