Runners are being encouraged to don their trainers and take part in a 5k race at Hazlehead Park in Aberdeen – and raise money in the process.
Hundreds of people are expected to put their best foot forward for Friends of Hazlehead’s inaugural race and family fun day on August 30.
All money raised on the day, supported by house builder Dandara, will be put towards maintaining the popular park.
Gary Walker, of the Friends of Hazlehead, said it was a fantastic opportunity to show people in the community what the park had to offer.
“With the money we raise we will be able to continue with the projects we have planned for the park. This includes the replanting of the Queen Mother Rose Garden, upgrading the core paths, creating sign-posted running routes and renovating and improving the popular Pets’ Corner,” he said.
Both children and adults will be able to take part on the day – with youngsters able to participate in either a 1200m or a 2K race, while adults will be challenged with a 5K route.
Gillian Roberts, Dandara sales manager, said: “We are always keen to support our local community and are delighted to support the 5k. The Friends of Hazlehead are doing a fantastic job and their plans for the further development of the park, will ensure that it remains an asset for people of all ages to enjoy long into the future.”
Events will begin at 10am and continue into the afternoon. A wide range of activities will be on offer for visitors, including different catering areas and entertainment from the Bon Accord Brass Band.
