A man has appeared in court accused of sending threats of extreme violence.
Alastair Dow appeared in private at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday accused of sending “threatening communications” which implied he was intending to carry out a “seriously violent act” against a person or against a group of people of “a particular description”.
The 53-year-old made no plea when he appeared in front of Sheriff Christopher Shead and he was released on bail.
His case was continued for further examination and it is expected that he will appear in court again next week.
His arrest comes after police and an Army bomb disposal team were called to a flat in Aberdeen’s Hollybank Place on Sunday.
The nature of an item found in the flat is not known, however, police later said that it presented “no risk to anyone”.
A police officer stood guard at the building’s entrance as the experts from the Royal Logistics Corp’s Explosive Ordinance Disposals (EOD) dealt with the item.
A police spokesman said: “Following the discovery of an unidentified item at a flat in Hollybank Place, Aberdeen, officers from Police Scotland requested the assistance of specialist staff from the EOD. The item was examined and found to present no risk to anyone.”
