Residents at a block of flats in Aberdeen where a “suspicious” death was discovered have said the building has become “very unsafe” over the last few years.
A major investigation has been launched after a man was found dead at the Marischal Court building with police confirming three people are currently in custody.
It is understood they were arrested at an address in Kemnay, Aberdeenshire.
Forensic teams cordoned off the area around the high-rise on Friday after responding to an early morning call that a man had been injured on the ninth floor – he was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services.
One resident of Marischal Court, who did not want to be named, said: “There have been murders here before, it doesn’t surprise me.
“A lot more stuff has been happening recently and it’s horrible as there are a lot of young families and kids in the building.”
Another young couple, who have recently moved into the high-rise building, described it as awash with drugs and late night parties.
The man claimed drug related problems were “constant” and that he had even seen groups smoking crack cocaine in the lower hallways of the flats.
Local councillor Ryan Houghton said: “This is a shocking incident and I would absolutely encourage anyone who knows anything at all to come forward to the police.
My thoughts are with the family of the victim involved.”
“I’m surprised because drug crime is one thing but a serious incident like this something else.
“I know police have been working incredibly hard and I’m sure they are doing everything they can to get to the bottom of it.”
A large police presence was visible at the scene and a wide cordon was put in place around the high-rise apartment building.
Police teams in forensic suits were also spotted entering the building.
The lift elevators were still out of action for residents on Friday evening after they were shut off when police, ambulance and fire services attended at the building around 7:40 yesterday morning.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We were made aware of a man being found injured in the Marischal Court area of Aberdeen, around 7am on Friday, April 2.
“Emergency services attended and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Three people, two men and a woman have been arrested in connection with the death which is currently being treated as suspicious. Enquires are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
