A north-east artist is auctioning off a portrait of the First World War to raise money for the Poppy Appeal.
Pat Bain from Aberdeen has drawn a picture in honour of the centenary of the war, and hopes to raise funds through a silent auction.
The artist, whose grandfather fought with the Gordon Highlanders, said: “I was just thinking about it being the centenary and a started doing some drawings, and they materialised into a picture. So I thought what will I do with this – why don’t I auction it to raise money for the Poppy Appeal or something similar.”
The image, called Lest We Forget, depicts soldiers going over the top of the trenches into No Man’s Land.
“It’s not representative of any particular battle or regiment,” said Ms Bain.
“I’ve tried to capture something of what it might have been like to fight in the trenches, the ruined landscape and civilization beyond.”
The image is being displayed as part of Garioch Art Club’s Annual Exhibition in Inverurie Town Hall.
The club’s artwork will be displayed between Saturday August 9 and Saturday August 16.
The exhibition will be open daily between 10am and 4.30pm, and members of the public who wish to take part in the auction can leave details of the amount they would like to pledge.
Ms Bain will also accept submissions directly, on 01224 714278.
