Emergency services were called to an incident in Fraserburgh’s Barrasgate Road after reports that a wall collapsed.
A neighbouring family reported feeling their house sway during the incident which took place around 9pm on Thursday night.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “We were called in relation to a subsidence issue in Barrasgate Road. We were contacted by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
“The road has been closed and engineers have been called.”
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman confirmed that firefighters were called to the scene but that no action was necessary.
A spokesperson for Aberdeenshire Council said: “A drainage line was being altered in order for a boundary retaining wall to be constructed.
“During the heavy rain last night the boundary line that was exposed washed away causing some ground slippage. We are currently assessing whether this has caused an issue with the pavement.”
