Police are urging householders in Aberdeenshire to be wary of cold-callers offering to do work.
The warning comes after a number of elderly people in the Sandend area were targeted.
A man visited their properties on Tuesday afternoon claiming to be from the council, and was then given access to the building.
He proceeded to enter the loft spaces under the pretence of being there to carry out work.
Police constable Philip Duncan, based at Banff, said: “This individual is targeting vulnerable persons in the Sandend area and I would remind local residents that if approached by people claiming to be from the Council, or any other organisation, that they should ask for identification or business cards before allowing them into their property.”
People are being urged to close the door if they feel intimidated, and not to agree to work on the basis of a verbal quote.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
