Police are appealing for witnesses after a man died when his car collided with a lamppost on the A90 Aberdeen to Dundee road.
The 43-year-old was travelling in a black BMW 328 Coupe when the accident happened on the northbound carriageway near Bridge of Muchalls at 4.38am.
Police called an electrician to the scene after concerns about live wires at the scene.
Two fire appliances from Aberdeen also attended and had to use cutting gear to release the victim from the car.
The road was closed to northbound traffic for several hours while local officers carried out their investigations.
The wreckage was taken away by a local recovery team.
Sergeant Neil Morrison, from the Aberdeenshire Road Policing Unit, said: “Investigations into the cause of the collision are at an early stage and I would urge anyone who witnessed the collision and hasn’t spoken to police to do so.
“Additionally, anyone who may have seen the vehicle prior to the incident is asked to contact us.”
