One bride-to-be was left lost for words at an Aberdeenshire games this afternoon when her boyfriend publicly proposed to her at his family’s clan gathering.
Electrician Sandy Leask had travelled from Causewayhead, Stirling with girlfriend Fiona Miller to attend the annual Clan Leask gathering at the Aboyne Highland Games.
He decided it would be the appropriate time to introduce his girlfriend of a year and a half to his immediate and extended family members within the clan society.
It was also – unknown to Ms Miller – the day he had hand-picked to get down on one knee – on the mucky, rain-soaked ground of a wet Aboyne field – and propose to his future wife.
Mr Leask, 27, said his chosen location – to the rear of Aboyne Games’ Overseas tent, within the hub of the tents of North-east clans – was “as good a place as any” to propose.
He added: “We were up for a Clan Leask gathering, and I thought it would be a good opportunity to introduce Fiona to all my family, and I thought it was a good place to propose.
“We have dated for over a year and a half and I thought it would be nice.
“My grandfather and my Dad they kept the ring for me.”
Ms Miller, 27, a PHD researcher at Stirling University – originally from Dunblane – was too emotional to say much, but added that she had big plans for their forthcoming wedding.
Grandfather, Arthur Leask, added that he was delighted at having a future addition to the clan.
