The sky is the limit for one Aberdeen pupil who scored top marks in his exams.

Pupils from Robert Gordon’s College were revelling in their top results yesterday, with 51 youngsters out of the 180 sitting Highers achieving five or more straight As.

Fourth year pupils sitting Intermediate 2 exams or the new National 5 qualifications were also praised after 89% of all grades awarded were an A or B.

Among the 67 fourth year pupils to receive eight straight As was Andrew Webb.

The 16-year-old, of Cults, was “over the moon” when he discovered he had earned himself top results in English, French, chemistry, maths, physics, engineering science, history and biology.

He said: “So far as I have heard, everyone was doing really well. Everyone did quite a lot of studying before it. Since about November everyone’s been heads down, working hard.”

Andrew will take on Higher chemistry, maths, physics, English and engineering science after the summer, and already has several ideas about the future.

He said: “I’d quite like to be an airline pilot or go to the RAF, or go down to London to study down there.”

It is has been a special summer for the teenager, who has also been selected to play for Scotland’s under-18s hockey team, and recently volunteered at the Commonwealth Games.

While there he brushed shoulder with members of the victorious Australian hockey team, as well as England hockey player, Ashley Jackson.

Another pupil from the school who was celebrating last night was Sarah Simpson, who is now preparing to start her studies at one of the UK’s top universities having achieved three A-grades in English, French and Spanish at advanced higher level.

The 17-year-old, of Aberdeen, is now working through her summer holidays as she prepares to study Spanish and Linguistics at Oxford University, starting in October.
