This is the moment a crane operator hit the right key when he hoisted a grand piano into an Aberdeen music school.
Operating the controls of the giant lift, he carefully lowered the instrument through a tight window space at the North East School of Music in Huntly Street.
It was one of four new deliveries to the school where there was anticipation for the arrival of two new grand pianos and two upright pianos.
One grand was so big that a window of the building had to be removed as the crane lifted the piano into an upstairs room.
Three people including the operator were needed to perform the delicate task and one wrong move could have resulted in a bum note and cost thousands.
The instruments came from Steinway, a world-famous piano manufacturing firm based in London, and the grand piano pictured, was worth £19,000.
Jessica Russell, who works at the school, said watching the piano dangle was nerve-racking but their minds “were put at rest” by the experts in charge.
Once the pianos were safely in the building it wasn’t long before they became a hit with staff.
“Quite a few of us have had a go already,” Miss Russell said.
Dr Roger Williams, convener of the school’s music committee, said: “Our current instruments have served us well for many years but the time has come for their replacement. After much research I am delighted that we have chosen to go to the celebrated firm of Steinway to ensure excellence and reliability.”
He added: “We are most grateful for the many donations we have received which have enabled us to make this ambitious purchase. This represents a statement of confidence in the future of NESMS and in the outstanding musical talent of our students.”
In the Autumn, the school will be holding an open day when any qualified musician will be able to try out the new pianos.
The school offers music tuition in 14 disciplines to promising students of all ages.
