An Aberdeen woman is preparing to jet off to Paris after reaching the final of an international beauty pageant.
Maree Wilson, from the city’s Lang Stracht, was one of the finalists chosen in the Scottish heats of Face of the Globe at the weekend..
The 26-year-old will join the four other Scottish finalists, as well as contestants from around the world, at the final in October.
She said: “I had a really good day, but when it came time for calling out the grand finalists, my nerves started to kick in.
“When they called out fourth girl and only one spot was left my heart sank, as I really thought that it was over for me. Then they shouted my name – I think I screamed and ran out.”
Face of the Globe, which won the coveted title of Pageant of the Year at this year’s Official UK Pageant Industry Awards, features contestants from four age groups.
A large part of the pageant is about charity, and each of the competitors raises as much as they can for the Rainbow Child Foundation, an international charity that helps underprivileged children from around the world.
As well as becoming a grand finalist, Miss Wilson won the title of Miss Charity, having raised the most money for the foundation.
She raised almost £1,000 through various activities, including a sponsored cycle from Dyce to Peterhead, and the sale of Harris Tweed donated by her sponsor Stornoway Recycling Centre.
Already thinking about the final, Miss Wilson said: “I’m waiting for my finalist pack to make a plan for Paris, in that time I’ll be looking at getting new dresses. I’m just so excited I don’t know where to start.”
