Families will have to try to predict the “changeable” weather if they want to make the most of the last few days of the summer holidays.
Although the heavy rain that forced people to flee from their homes and washed away roads and bridges in Moray and Aberdeenshire has moved south, forecasters are expecting a “mixed bag” for the remainder of the week.
There will be a few showers today and tomorrow, leaving Friday looking like the best day – albeit a cool one.
Met Office forecaster Charlie Powell said: “We’ve still got low pressure on the north-east coast making for some changeable weather, but the majority of the rain has now moved further south towards the Central Belt.
“We’ll see an improvement as we head through the next few days.
“There will be further showers today, but not persistent rain.
“We’ve got to wait until Friday before we see anything that is a bit more settled.”
However, although the showers will fade away on Friday, they are expected to return for the weekend.
It will also be breezy, making it feel “chilly”, with temperatures in the “mid to high teens at best”, Mr Powell added.
In Aberdeen, temperatures over the next few days are expected to be about 18C while further inland at Deeside, the mercury will peak at 16C. Similar temperatures can be expected in Elgin and along the Buchan coast.
Mr Powel said: “Friday certainly looks the best, it is more settled but as we head to the weekend there will be more changeable weather with further showers on the cards.
“There will be little change in temperatures as we head through to Sunday.
“There will be some respite from the rain, but I’d make the most of the next couple of days.”
