A major new housing development proposed for Aberdeen has been recommended for approval by council planners.
The 3,000-home scheme at Countesswells would effectively create a new town on the western outskirts of the city.
The detailed application, from millionaire businessmen Stewart Milne and Ian Suttie, includes schools, leisure facilities and land set aside for employment use.
The 410-acre farmland site lies between Bieldside to the south and Kingswells to the north. It is bounded to the east by Hazlehead woods, park and golf courses, and to the west by Foggieton and Countesswells Wood.
Stewart Milne Group managing director Glenn Allison said previously that the new community would play a key role in accommodating the booming population of Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.
A report to be considered by councillors on the city’s development management sub-committee next week has earmarked the plans for conditional approval.
Hundreds of millions of pounds would be spent creating a whole new settlement at Countesswells – which would also include three schools, shops and business plots to the west of the city.
