Residents in Aberdeenshire are to be asked for their views on plans for a major new housing development.
Turriff-based Sandlaw Farming has submitted a pre-application notice to Aberdeenshire Council to build 300 homes at Braehead in Banchory.
The 10-year project would include the creation of 200 rented houses, 100 affordable homes and some small residential care apartments.
Land has also been set aside for a health facility which could replace Banchory’s current one at Bellfield, near the town’s Station Road.
The company aims to provide 300 private rented homes, primarily for local people who are unable to buy their own property.
A public exhibition is to be held at the Burnett Arms Hotel next week at which visitors will be able to comment on the proposals and register their interest in private rented homes or assisted living.
Sandlaw is also proposing a renewable energy supply, Deeside Way interpretation centre, incubator units for small local artisan businesses, new and improved cycle and walking paths and a safer B974 approach to the town.
Ken Ross, consultant to Sandlaw Farming, said: “Our early research and consultation in Banchory indicate that there is a hidden, sustained shortage of homes suitable for the needs of local people.
“Providing private rented homes will give young families setting out on life as well as older people who need support, or are looking to down-size, an option that is almost non-existent at present and is not covered in Aberdeenshire Council’s local plans.
“New housing development attracts opposition from people who already have a home and don’t want new houses on their doorstep. We want local people who aren’t so fortunate to be given the opportunity to live where they choose, in homes they can afford.”
If approved, the firm has the funds in place to begin work on the site immediately.
A walk-in public exhibition is being held in the Burnett Arms on Friday, August 22 from 2pm to 8pm and Saturday, August, 23 from 10am to 5pm.
