Thousands of pounds worth of diesel and agricultural equipment have been stolen from farms in Aberdeenshire.
Fuel was taken from a property in the Kinellar area between 7pm last Wednesday and 8am the following morning.
Meanwhile, between last Tuesday at 10am and 5.30pm on Thursday, agricultural gates valued at a four-figure sum were snatched from a farm at Insch.
Last night, police said there was a “danger of complacency” in rural areas with low levels of crime, and urged people to take extra precautions.
Crime reduction officer Kev Marron said: “These few incidents show how necessary it is to take basic precautions to ensure we continue to enjoy the high quality of life and low crime rate we are accustomed to.
“Rural crime is on the increase in other parts of the UK but Police Scotland are committed to ensuring that we keep all communities safe and if anyone wants information, assistance or advice regarding security they can contact me through 101.”
He also appealed for anyone with information about either incident to contact police.
He said: “Above all it is imperative we work as a community and so if anyone sees anything unusual or suspicious I would encourage them to telephone police on 101.
“Alternatively they can telephone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
