Aberdeen’s council leader yesterday acccepted an “ice bucket” challenge – agreeing to be soaked by colleagues in the name of charity.
Jenny Laing braved the cold outisde the local authority headquarters Marischal College to raise funds for motor neurone disease (MND).
The Labour councillor for Midstocket and Rosemount then nominated Lord Provost George Adam, Aberdeenshire party colleague Alison Evison and Press and Journal editor Damian Bates.
The city politician was the latest in a string of high profile figures to take the charity plunge, including first minister Alex Salmond and Better Together leader Alistair Darling.
Speaking afterwards, she said: “It’s a wonderful way in which we can highlight the work of the charities but also raise funds for all the great work that they do. If we can have a bit of a laugh while we do it, then that’s great too.
“I had the opportunity, so I thought I would do it.
“The funny thing was (finance convener) Willie Young managed to get a soaking while tipping the bucket over.”
People from all walks of life have accepted the challenge, which is understood to have originated in the United States.
Supermarket giant Tesco has said it would donate its profits from an increase in ice sales to the Motor Neurone Disease Association as the craze continues sweeps the globe via social media.
