Resurfacing works to an all-weather facility in Aberdeenshire have been welcomed by a local councillor who hopes it will continue to serve Fraserburgh’s community to a high standard.
Aberdeenshire Council is in the process of completing the works to the town’s sports facility in Kessock Road.
The facility’s chairman, Michael Murray, also praised the work saying the undertaking was part of a 13 year project.
“It’s pleasing, it’s been a couple years of work to get it resurfaced. I’m just delighted.
“I can’t praise them enough.”
The all-weather pitch’s former surface had been in place for a decade before the council took action to lay a new surface.
Fraserburgh councillor Ian Tait said: “I am delighted, of course, that the artificial pitch will be replaced and I would like to pay tribute to the management group who are doing an excellent job in making this resource such a tremendous success.
“I supported this from its inception and it has given good service for several years.
“Now, the council is going to make sure our local sports people will continue to have the finest up-to-date all-weather surface to play on.”
The pitch is used throughout the year by local sporting groups and youngsters under the management of the facility’s Jackie Buchan.
Mr Murray added: “Jackie Buchan does a fantastic job here with the support of the board. We hope to see it back in use by October.”
In 2012 more than 1,000 primary-age pupils from Fraserburgh schools took over sports facilities in the town, including Kessock Park, as part of a national record-breaking challenge.
The colourful track-and-field event was one of a number of events in the run up to the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The Big Dance event was a Guinness World Record bid involving hundreds of simultaneous choreographed routines by groups across the UK.
The dance – part of the Cultural Olympiad – marked the arrival of the Olympic torch in Britain.
