A north-east piping event has been hailed a huge success, with an estimated 7,000 visitors attending.
Pipes in the Park, which took place in Huntly on Saturday, featured performances from Red Hot Chilli Pipers and the Donnie Munro Band, as well as pipe bands from across Scotland.
Huntly and District Pipe Band drum major Derek Dean said: “We were delighted with how the day went. Obviously the weather put a bit of a dampener on things, but it really went well.
“We estimated there were over 7,000 people there, we counted them coming in the door, and there was a real party carnival atmosphere. We’re very pleased.”
The event featured a massed pipe band parade through the town to open the event. Throughout the day visitors were entertained by Highland dancing, a Drum Major display, and music by individual pipe bands and other musicians.
A spokesman for the Red Hot Chilli Pipers, who took to the stage on Saturday evening, said: “We were thrilled to be asked to come and play at Pipes in the Park in Huntly on Saturday. We met so many lovely people and the hospitality was just spectacular – as it always is in the Highlands.
“We loved rocking the Market Muir playing fields and were delighted that the rain certainly didn’t dampen the spirits of the audience. You guys know how to party. We can’t wait to come back and see you all again soon.”
He added that Huntly Pipe Bank president Bill Deans and his team had dondid a most incredible job bringing this huge and amazing event to the people of Huntly. We loved working with them and want to congratulate them on a job well done.”
The free event took place in the town’s Market Muir following a last-minute venue change as a result of bad weather.
Mr Dean said: “It was a great event, especially the parade, and the crowd braved the weather tremendously.
“The whole day simply wouldn’t have been possible without funding from our sponsors and the community. Without them we wouldn’t have had the funds to put on the event, so we really appreciate all the help and support they have given us.”
