An Aberdeenshire councillor has praised a new community centre which was formally opened at the weekend.
East Garioch member Martin Ford attended the opening of Newmachar Community Centre on Saturday.
The £1.4million facility was completed in March, and has been in use since April. It was officially opened by Aberdeenshire Provost Jill Webster.
Mr Ford said: “The formal opening of the new centre marks a great achievement for Newmachar, the result of many years of fundraising and volunteer effort by the community.
“A big ‘thank you’ is due to all who helped make the new building a reality.
“Everyone I have spoken with is really impressed with the new centre. It’s a great facility that will meet the community’s needs for many years to come.”
The building, which replaces a 1950’s-built village hall, includes a large sports hall, studios, and a community cafe.
The idea to replace the old hall at the School Road site was fist suggested in 2001.
A significant proportion of the funding for the new building was provided by Aberdeenshire Council.
