A celebration of Scottish music and dance marked the 50th anniversary of a Mearns school pipe band at the weekend.
Original members of Lathallan School Pipe Band, who first played in 1964, joined current members to mark the milestone.
A marquee was set up in front of the Johnshaven school’s Brotherton Castle, where a ceilidh, led by Bruce Lindsay’s Scottish Dance Band, was held on Saturday night.
The Red Hot Chilli Pipers and Lathallan School Pipe Band also performed in the event.
Earlier in the day, pupils enjoyed musical workshops held by Shotts and Dykehead Caledonia Pipe Band.
During the past 12 months, the band has been involved in scores of musical opportunities, including playing Flower of Scotland at the Scotland v Tonga International at Pittodrie, opening the Glasgow Sevens tournament, and taking part in a major Scottish festival in Belgium.
In November, former pipe band major, Alexander Sanger, 17, travelled to Belgium to play at the Remembrance Day ceremonies at the Menin Gate, at Ypres, and he also piped Stonehaven into 2014 with Auld Lang Syne at the bells.
He has now been replaced by Pipe Major Jonny Dreelan, 17, of Banchory-Devenick, who is a fifth year pupil at the school.
Headmaster Richard Toley said the band had a long history and that many pupils had learned to play the chanter, pipes and drums within the school walls.
Talking about Saturday’s celebrations, he said it had been wonderful to see some of the original pipe band members back at the school.
He added: “It was an absolutely fantastic day.”
