Convicted murderer Malcolm Webster has launched a fresh bid to clear his name.
The former Aberdeen Royal Infirmary nurse was jailed for killing his first wife Claire Morris in a staged car crash in Aberdeenshire in 1994.
He also tried to murder his second wife Felicity Drum in a copycat accident in New Zealand in 1999. Webster has always denied the crimes.
The Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission (SCCRC), which looks at possible miscarraiges of justice, has now confirmed that Webster has lodged an application to have his sentence and conviction reviewed.
In March, Webster abandoned an appeal to have his 30-year jail term reduced at the Court of Session in Edinburgh, claiming the process made him look guilty.
The SCCRC could refer his case back to the courts.
Today, Claire Morris’ brother, Peter, said he hoped the matter would be rejected “straight away”.
