Former captain Willie Miller, his old central defensive partner Alex McLeish and goalkeeper Jim Leighton were among a group of 16 Scottish footballing names who came out in support of a No vote on September 18.
The news caused a minor storm on social media, but also prompted former Don Neil Simpson, who played alongside the trio throughout the glory years under Sir Alex Ferguson, to have his say as well.
In reply to the announcement for the No campaign, Simpson said: “If everyone else is allowed to hang their colours to the mast. Then I am a resounding YES for independence and a better future.”
