Families can take a step back in time later this month when they visit an Aberdeenshire country park.
Haddo Country Park will host the Living History Weekend, where a 17th century military camp will be set up with actors recreating Sir Arthur Erskine’s Regiment of Foot.
The experienced group will bring to life the authentic sights and sounds of a camp from the time, with authentic food and cooking demonstrations, cast musket balls on site and lead pike and musket displays.
Throughout the day, visitors can find out more about Sir John Gordon of Haddo, who in 1643 was on the run from the Covenanting Army.
A small detachment of soldiers were left to defend the house from the enemy, and visitors will be able to follow them on their patrols around the park as they hunt for spies and enemy troops.
The climax of the day will be the battle on Scot’s Mile – complete with cannon fire.
Historians will also be on hand to answer questions about military weapons and uniforms and why Aberdeenshire saw so many battles.
Visitor officer Diana Spencer said: “Haddo has such an amazing and fascinating history, and there’s no better way to discover it than to actually have it brought to life, right in front of your eyes.
“We’re thrilled to have Erskine’s Regiment here, they’ve performed reenactments at historic sites across Scotland and it’s a privilege to have them at Haddo.”
The event will run over the course of two days, from September 20, from 11am-4.30am. Entry is free.
